Continuous Improvement in our People and Processes

Our core values are at the centre of everything that we do here at Union Fasteners. One such value is that of quality. Be this the quality of our products, services or staff, quality is fundamental to the culture of our business.

To help to ensure this holistic application of quality, we strive to encourage employee development at all levels of our business. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that one of our team leaders, Andy Moore, is currently undertaking a Level 3 NVQ QCF in Business Improvement Techniques.

Andy is studying at In-Com, a private training business. For his fellow employees, Andy’s qualification means that they will be led by a Team Leader who understands Lean Manufacturing and the benefits it can bring as well as how to effectively manage projects and groups of people.

Lean Manufacturing is a systematic manufacturing process which aims to minimise waste without impacting on productivity by eliminating components which do not add value.

Andy’s project for his NVQ will incorporate his course subjects of various management and lean techniques, focussing on the 5S of the shop floor and solving the subsequent problems which this process uncovers.

The 5S elements are fundamental in Lean Manufacturing in order to improve efficiency. The 5S are: sort, sustain, shine, set in order and standardise. When applied correctly, these aspects encourage the development of an orderly work flow and contribute to the minimisation of waste required to attain a Lean Manufacturing process.

Staff development is important for us as a business. To have individuals striving to advance their knowledge and skills benefits both the individuals themselves, and the company as a whole. This in turn allows us to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of the products and services we provide for our clients.

To complement this staff development, we are also investing in the look and function of the machine hall, which will further add to the efficiency of the business and the general work environment for the staff.
